Time for turkey hunting! Headed for my annual hunt in the Black Hills. Can’t wait to test out the new and improving physique chasing those Merriams at 5,000 feet. Maybe I’ll just run one down. I know, I know. I’m probably jinxing myself talking smart, but I sure feel good! But it’s been way too long since I got out and stretched my legs on real hunting terrain.
This is from Bill's 2004 Black Hills hunt. Hopefully he'll be striking a similiar pose soon.
Despite the elevation and the “run and gun” style of turkey hunting I enjoy most, I’m still planning to add some daily work outs to the hunting. I’m planning on wearing the weighted pack everywhere I go hunting as well as the new boots. Also, I have an old well on the place with a hand pump. It really needs to have some gallons run through it to see if that will clear it up after years of disuse. Then of course the cabin needs work, so I’ll be up and down the ladder a thousand times. Plenty of opportunity for extra exercise.
We’re back from the visit to Thompson/Center in Rochester, New Hampshire. The ought-six is built. I’m not going to steal the thunder from the Mission Dall’s Sheep video post next week, so for now let’s just say the results are good; very, VERY GOOD!
Weight and work out report: Weight this week exactly the same as last, but that’s not surprising. Road food and a hard time sleeping while traveling are downfalls. Wouldn’t have been surprised to gain back a pound or two, so I’m happy with the same. Plus on Sunday I cranked it up a notch at the gym and did 6 miles at a 4.75 mph pace. I’m glad I could do it, but if felt good to be done!
Shoot straight –
