What do you mean the ATV looks better than me. It's muddy and I'm not!
This isn’t the first time I’ve been disappointed with ATV owners. While scouting a few days ago we came across several sets of tracks made from ATVs. That’s not unusual considering the amount of ATVs owned by sportsmen today.
What was disturbing was the fact all the tracks we found were in restricted areas where only hiking and horseback access was allowed. No motorized vehicles were to be operated in the areas.
I’ll be honest. I’ve never been a big fan of ATVs and I just bought my first one this spring. After owning it I can’t imagine being without one, but over the years I was jaded by seeing the misuse and seeing the tracks the other day reminded me of my love/hate relationship.
Like most violators, it’s a small percentage of users that ruin it for everyone. Those same bad apples give all ATV owners a black eye. Just like me, non-ATV owners who have seen acts of destruction on public lands look at all ATV owners as irresponsible stewards of the land.
Hunting season is on its way and it’s time to think about how you plan to use your ATV this fall. Use it responsibly. Follow the law. Make us all look good. I need all the help I can get in the looks department.
