Taking it All Including the Kitchen Sink

July 22, 2009

I don’t have to go without anymore. It’s not that I’m deprived, but whenever we hit the outdoors we make sure we take everything… including the kitchen sink. How do I manage to get it all in?

Camping the redneck way.

Camping the redneck way.

Since we generally take the horses camping we have to use a horse trailer and in our last round (hopefully my last forever) of purchasing trailers we bought a 20-foot gooseneck. With a little bit of redneck ingenuity we converted the tack room to a sleeping area complete with a cushy mattress and carpeted comfort. The only drawback is some condensation, but we avoid the major rain showers with the metal roof over our heads. The trailer area works great for transporting horses, gear and there’s even room for the ATV.

When we get everything unloaded and clean out the obligatory manure, we scatter fresh wood shavings to make the trailer interior hospitable. From there we set up the kitchen and what a kitchen it turns out to be. With the Coleman theme leading the kitchen design we have all the comforts of tables, sinks, stoves, lanterns and enough cooler capacity for a boned-out whitetail.

It’s definitely not like camping with a plush, overly accessorized camping trailer, but it’s better than roughing it with just tents. I get enough of that lifestyle during hunting season. Enjoy your next campout. We are!
