The rut is still on and I proved it the last few days by rattling in a bunch of bucks. The result is a great show for NAH TV for the 2010 season. I teamed up with NAH TV producer Melissa Bachman and she worked hard to capture it all.
If you want to have calling success before the rut winds down; get after it. I used backdoor tactics to get in close. My goal was to get into bedrooms without spooking deer. If I did happen to bump a doe or buck, I would stop immediately and start rattling. The running deer just added to the drama of my calls.
Maybe you should have used your bow?
It worked on this buck. I spooked six does and started rattling immediately. This buck responded to the antlers and my True Talker grunt tube did the rest. This buck stopped at 21 yards for me to put a great ending onto a great hunt.
Keep calling and get in close for the best results.
