Yes, it’s time again for my annual trek to the Minneapolis area to meet up with the gang from North American Hunter. We’re filming the entire roundup of the “You Call The Shots” segments for all of 2010 this week. We’ll be filming on the premises of ATK or many of you might be more familiar with one of their factions, Federal Ammunition. They’re great hosts and have a beautiful cabin-style facility that serves as our studio. Plus, they have great food!
There’s no question about it. This is work for me and everyone involved, but I have to be honest. It’s one of the more enjoyable assignments I work on annually. Even though the topic of making clean shots on game is dead serious, it’s always fun to rib each other about great shots, missed shots and the weapons we use in the field. There’s no doubt Larry Weishuhn will jab me about hunting with “sticks and strings,” but I’ll get back at him for hunting deer with elephant calibers. Behind the scenes we also have fun with the crew, many of whom spend time with me in the field like Melissa Bachman and longtime friend Lonnie Garland.
What you see in the final, edited versions on Versus is the real deal. We’re having fun on the set, joking and joshing just like you and your pals do at hunting camp. That’s probably the best way to describe it: hunting camp. We may just be hunting on video, but the spirit of hunting camp is alive and well on the set of You Call The Shots.
Enjoy!
